Its a crazy life!

Oh my, oh my.

So much work so much stuff. Sometimes I wonder why I do this.

Oh well , after a long week of work all day and work on car all night we finally made it to the track. Of course not as planned, a test day before race did not happen. So here we are ready to race with no track time. Eric picked me and the car up about 2pm, already behind schedule but it was raining so no big deal.
So we get to track and unpack. Head back to hotel for some rest. Car will be on track 8am, with no test laps ever.

Saturday morning. Dark and misty as well get to track. Car passed tech with no problems. Now just get ready to run.
Hit he track at 8am sharp.. Slippery track. And after 3 laps getting loud.. bolt for muffler loose.
No big deal. Now we are going to qualify.... 10am.
Car feels much better. But only get 5 laps in. Has a bad understeer. Still manage to qualify 10th overall (out of 25 ) in Enduro.
Ok . Now finally our friend and sponsor Ira Ramin ( Tarett Engineering) shows up. 6 hr drive from San Diego due to accident on I-5.

Suspension guy that he is... alignment... and we were off...... THANKS IRA!

OK now
Now it is time to race.

Car is strong, crew is comitted, and its me ..driving..

Yes.. I did it finished the race by myself... IRONMAN.........
15th out of 30 , car ran great... more speed soon...

Today was a great day!

Well folks, some days is better than others. Today is one of them.

Not only did I get the car back from Robert Davis (APS Auto, long time friend, great fabricator, even better racer). He did a great job on the NASCAR style door bars on drivers side. See pictures, great safety and lots of room , built beyond NASA/SCCA standards. NICE AND SAFE!

I also ended up having lunch with lunch with Jon Milledge, a 944 guru, ex-IMSA Firehawk Champ and race engine builder. ( he just relocated to area from back east) He gave me so much info about 944 S2's in racing it made my head spin and think in many directions, 50 more horsepower, how to make ABS work in racing conditions, shocks...

He will not make Buttonwillow but will become Advisory engineer for team. If time and money permits we may have to spend some time on Chassis and shock dynos.

( We now have more fancy titles on our team now than most Pro Teams)

Making things look Pretty!

Saturday started early! It was time to take a road trip down to Eric's shop in Fillmore. 150 miles south. Hardcore as always drove the car down there It is an endurance car after all. Eric has a nice place perfect for Porsche prep. We started to clean up car in preparation for some numbers and stickers for car and trailer. Johnny Gomez from Sportswear126 made the stickers at a very reasonable price. He even took time in his busy schedule to put them on. If you need something done, give him a chance. http://www.sportswear126.com/ . Then it was time for some photo opportunities for promo shots and question and answer session with some local Porsche enhusiast. Then time for another 3 hrs home. Car ran flawless and the Kirkey seat was surprisingly comfortable. Only two weeks to trackdebut at Buttonwillow! And list of things to do is still long. Oh well, sleep is overrated after all.

Sunday September 23rd

On Friday I received a package from one of our sponsors. Ira Ramin from Tarett Engineering. http://www.tarett.com/. I received a pair of front camber plates and Front swaybar reinforcement brackets. Very Nice products, Nice fit and easy to install. Also managed to score another freebie. A front splitter from a RS America. Needs to be modified to fit but the price was right.

So Why did I pick this car?

Well I have been getting a few questions why I choose this car for this race.
Well , for a race like this a car need to be fast, reliable, have great fuel mileage, good handling and easy to drive.
As I wanted to run a Porsche and being on a budget a 944 is the Perfect choice. However a regular 944 is not fast enough, a Turbo not reliable enough. Well the choice is the 944S2, it has a 3.0 liter 4-cylinder engine, 215 Horsepower, great torque curve. Great brakes , Good fuel mileage, big gas tank, well balanced and easy to drive. In fact these S2's dominated Professional Showroom Stock Endurance racing in the early 1990's.
Then starting to figure out classification realize that a moderately prepared car fits right ino the E1 Class in the NASA Endurance series.

Here is a few pictures of what "Evelyn" looks like today as i sits at the shop. Mechanically runs and drives strong. Yes, registered and legal. Gives me lots of testing opportunities!

Still to do a few more things though. Seems like every time I fix something on the To-Do list two more things gets added to it. And will look great once Numbers and graphics gets added.
